28 Days Later

No, this is not the sequel the Sandra Bullock's movie 28 days.

Since Resident Evil broke onto the screen in 2002, it paved the way for a new generation of zombie movies to follow. Now zombie movies are nothing new, the first real "zombie craze" starting with the original Night of the Living Dead in 1968. With so many out there, how can they possible do anything new? Just watch 28 Days Later and you'll find out.

28 Days Later is set in England 28 days after a horrific virus is released into the population. The movie starts with activists trying to free chimps from a testing facility, where they then find out that these chimps are being used for testing of a new virus called "rage". One of the activists gets bitten and thus the virus spreads into the population.

Our main character Jim (played by Cillian Murphy), wakes up in a hospital 28 days after the virus has spread. With no idea that this has happened, Jim wonders around trying to figure out what has occurred. Along the way he meets up with several other characters including a father and daughter. The rest of the movie is mainly about their survival.

This movie does a great job making you feel for these characters. You wonder in the back of your mind, how would I be handling this if I was in this situation, so you feel for them. 28 Days Later differentiates itself from other zombie movies by focuses more on these characters than on the zombies in which they are running from.

In terms of "scary" movies or "zombie" movies, 28 Days Later ranks as one of the highest on my list. It gives you some hair-raising scares but also has solid characters and story to back it up. I'm going to give it a 9 out of 10. So if you want a scare, but you don't want it to be all mindless, see this movie, and as always...Enjoy!
