Addicted to Love

Addicted to Love stars Matthew Broderick and Meg Ryan in this tale of love scorned. Broderick's character is an astronomer who is soon to be wed to his high school sweetheart, when she has to leave for New York for a short trip. The day she is suppose to come back home, Broderick is greeted by her father, whose has a Dear John letter for him. She's decided to stay in New York and doesn't want to marry him. Of course he's crushed and confused, so he goes off to New York to find her.

He finds her but he only watches her from the building across the street, because he wants to win her back (can we say stalker?) The problem is that she has a new boyfriend, a Frenchman. This is where Meg Ryan's character comes in, she used to date the Frenchman and now she wants revenge on him for breaking up with her. So Ryan's character "moves" in with Broderick in his dilapidated building.

This movie falls into the "Romantic Comedy" genre that has made Meg Ryan famous. Addicted to Love falls into one of the typical formulas for this type of movie. Two people with common interests get together, but they really hate each other, and eventually fall for the other without realizing it. That said, this movie does adds a few twists and changes to that formula while adding plenty of humor.

Addicted to Love represents Meg Ryan's typical level of acting and Matthew is, as usual, very funny as a slightly neurotic character. I'm going to give it a 7 out of 10. Nothing new in terms of plot, but there are plenty of new laughs. So, enjoy!
